What is Parent-Focused Therapy?

Parent-Focused Therapy is a set of 10 sessions design to help you get the most out of your therapy experience and build a regulated foundation within your home. Throughout these sessions you will be asked to reflect upon your own upbringing, you’ll be given assessments to complete plus books to be read on your own time, you’ll receive a family-oriented values game, and you’ll gain effective skills to use right away within your home. Parent-Focused Therapy is more than a weekly session; it is an intentional time to grow towards thriving in parenthood.

Parent-Focused Therapy Process

Limitless Growth Therapy was born out of a need to break from the traditional medical model in order to meet parents where they are at without the typical limitations seen in bigger agencies or conventional family therapy.

While working for multiple years solely with kiddos and their families, I continuously ran into systemic issues within those family dynamics. Family after family I wondered if there was more I could do to help them, some other approach that would combat issues from the top down, the inside out.

Parent-Focused Therapy, similar to Pre-Marital Counseling, is the answer to my ponderings. Through Parent-Focused Therapy, clients will work through the issues that create tension and upside down family structures in an open, authentic way - without kids present to make you need to filter everything you say. Whether you are looking for help to create a solid foundation before you have kids, or your knee deep into adolescent angst, or your kids are grown and transitioning to parent of adult child relationship dynamics has been difficult, Parent-Focused Therapy can help you be the parent you dream of being.

At Limitless Growth Therapy, it is our goal to reach parents who want to thrive in their parenting roles, meeting them where they are at and creating growth in all areas of their life.

  • This session is designed to create a comfortable, open space where both partners and therapist can share their perspectives and start building the foundation for a healthy, lasting family unit.

  • During this session, we will dive a bit deeper into how each parent was raised as a child. Skills discussed include attachment styles and creating explicit family rules.

  • Respect is a mutual, two-way road, but one that is often demanded without earning it. We will discuss how to build mutual respect and why that is important to your child’s development.

  • Today we dig in to the importance of structure, boundaries, and consistency; why kids need these things and how to build them within your home.

  • Working with a child that is throwing a tantrum can be stressful for everyone involved, so we will learn skills to help build our own regulation skills and how to use co-regulation to help our children build those skills.

  • Today we will discuss multiple skills for increasing feeling identification and verbalization within your kid(s). This will help them learn how to recognize and advocate for their needs in a healthy way.

  • Sometimes kids behave in baffling ways, and sometimes they are simply stuck in their moral development. In this session we will learn to recognize the difference and how to work through those differences.

  • This session will focus on how trauma can impact our central nervous systems, keeping us stuck in fight or flight mode, and how we can help calm our system so we can respond to our children in a healthier way.

  • Today we will celebrate the growth and lasting changes you have made for your family, polish up any skills needed, and discuss opportunities for future therapeutic support.
